Falklands Task Force by Ivan Berryman  Spearheading the Falklands Task Force as it heads south in 1982, the carrier HMS Hermes is shown in company with two Type 21 frigates, HMS Arrow on the left and HMS Ardent in the near foreground.  In the far distance, HMS Glamorgan glints in the sun as Type 42 HMS Sheffield cuts across behind Hermes.  All pennant numbers were painted out and a vertical black identification stripe applied to all the Type 42s to distinguish them from their Argentine counterparts.

Storm Force to the Falklands by Anthony Saunders HMS Broadsword and the aircraft carrier Hermes battle their way through the storm on their way to the Battle for the Falklands.

Victory Parade by Ivan Berryman  Ships of the Falklands Task Force formate following the Argentine surrender in 1982.  Nearest is Leander class frigate HMS Andromeda with RFA Brambleleaf in her wake.  The Type 22 frigate HMS Brilliant is to the left of the picture, with the carrier HMS Invincible dominating the right.  HMS Hermes and her escorts are in the extreme distance.

The above prints are of HMS Hermes  which was the successor to the original HMS Hermes

HMS Hermes which was built by Armstrong: Parsons, and launched 11th September 1919, HMS Hermes was the first Royal navy aircraft Carrier designed as an aircraft carrier. HMS Hermes served in the home fleet in 1939, East Indies 1939 - 1942. She was sunk by the Japanese aircraft off Ceylon on the 9th April 1942.

Displacement 10,850 tons, top speed of 25 knots and carried 15 aircraft HMS Hermes had a compliment of 664 excluding aircrew.

HMS Hermes (R12)  Laid down 21st June 1944  but construction was suspended in 1945 only to be resumed in 1952 to clear the slipway and launched 16th February 1953. She was laid up until work started again in 1957. HMS Hermes was completed 18th November 1959.  Built at Vickers Armstrong at barrow in Furness. She was intended to be called HMS Elephant, but due to the cancellation of the Centaur class which included the new Hermes, She was renamed HMS Hermes to keep this famous Carrier name alive.
